Angel Peña of the Conservation Lands Foundation and Board member of the Friends will lead a hike to beautiful Valles Canyon, in the heart of the Uvas Mountains, part of Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks National Monument. The hike is under two miles round trip, mostly within the confines of a rocky/sandy arroyo. The hike is medium difficulty for its length (about 3.5 to 4 hours round trip, moderate pace), but does not have significant elevation gains. The terrain varies between solid dirt, sandy washes, and semi-rocky creekbeds.
Meeting place: We will meet at 8am at the public parking lot downtown at the NW corner of Las Cruces Ave and Church St to caravan. The drive is about an hour one way to the trailhead, via Corralitos Rd. We will make a stop at the Love’s truck stop for a restroom break.
Remember to bring your outdoor essentials including water, long pants, sunscreen, hat and snacks.
