National Trails Day

Saturday, June 3, 2017

National Trails Day is the only nationally coordinated event designed to unite all muscle powered trail activities with the goal of connecting more people to trails. Every trail beckons adventure and has a story to share with any person willing to discover it, and American Hiking Society, Friends of Organ Mountains Desert Peaks and the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance believe these trail experiences can improve the lives of every American. Each year, on the first Saturday of June, American Hiking Society and the trails community invite Americans of all ages and interests to find their own adventure and discover their unique story at one of the thousands of events hosted throughout the country. Find Your Trail and join us outside during #NationalTrailsDay on June 3.

Friends of Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks and the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance are hosting a variety of FREE,  public, volunteer-led outings for National Trails Day in Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks National Monument, including hiking, biking, horseback riding and trail running. All levels are welcome and the events are family-friendly. After you explore the trails, drop in between 9am and 12pm at Dripping Springs Natural Area for Ice Cream in Ice Canyon, behind the visitor’s center. Participants are asked to dress appropriately and to remember their outdoor essentials – water, snacks, hat, helmet (for bike & equestrian), sunglasses and sunscreen. For more information, contact the Friends of Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks at info@organmtnfriends.org or 575-323-1423.
