The Friends of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks and Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance will host a trail day on the SST Trail at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument on March 12th, 2016 from 8am-12pm. Volunteers are welcome with no previous experience necessary.
General trail maintenance will be performed as needed on length of the SST trail as time and volunteers allow. This will continue the work completed on the Oct. 2015 and Jan. 2016 trail days. General maintenance will include: grubbing vegetation from the trail, improving drainage, filling erosion ruts, signage and picking up garbage.
Volunteers will meet at the Discovery site trailhead off of Rocky Acres Trail at 8:00 am. We will then hike or ride to the SST trail. If transportation and volunteers permit we will start work on the upper end the trail and work our way back towards the parking area. Otherwise we will continue work on the bottom section of trail.
From Las Cruces: Take Highway 70/Picacho Ave. west. Turn right/north on Shalem Colony Trail, turn left on Rocky Acres Trail and then left onto gravel road leading into the monument.
