Friends of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks
Friends of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks seeks to enrich our community and diverse cultures through advocacy, conservation and restoration of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument as a premier example of America’s National Conservation Lands.
Friends of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks is committed to the protection and restoration of the ecological, natural, cultural and historic resources of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument and National Conservation Lands. Our work will ensure the protection of the resources and responsible access regardless of wealth, privilege or social standing.
Executive Director, Ben Gabriel
Ben graduated from Ohio University in 2004 with a degree in Adventure Recreation. He moved to New Mexico upon receiving a job as Assistant Director, managing the new Outdoor Recreation Program at New Mexico State University. During that time he oversaw the development of the university climbing wall, trips, clinics and the outdoor center, providing rental, retail and bike services to the NMSU community. Ben also received a Masters in Higher Education Administration from NMSU in 2010. In December 2014, Ben accepted the position of Executive Director of the Friends of Organ Mountains Desert Peaks. Personally, he is married to Christa and has a daughter, Neko.
Director of Programs & Operations, Susan Singley
Susan Singley joined Friends of Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks in August, 2016. Susan brings experience and skills in community engagement, resource development and program management to this newly created position. She holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from Colorado State University. She lives in Las Cruces and enjoys exploring the wild places of Southern New Mexico and the southwest.
