The Artist in Residence program hosts an artist at Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks National Monument twice a year, during the months of May and September. The Artist in Residence Program provides an artist and the public an opportunity to interact to better enhance the understanding of our public lands as well as the unique qualities an artist’s eye can capture. The BLM provides housing for the artist throughout the residency. Additionally, the artist will be granted a $1,000 stipend by the Friends OMDP. In exchange, the artist will be responsible for a creative community project, a donated art piece created during residency to FOMDP and a digital copy to the BLM to be used for promotional or educational content.
A crucial aspect of this residency involves the community project. Therefore, please make sure to provide detailed specifics in your application regarding your proposed project and how you plan on serving a diverse community.
Previous successful projects have included workshops, community painting activities, murals, digital art for educational purposes, and art for an updated Jr. Explorer book. We are open to other ideas and would love to help in any way we can.
Length of residency is negotiable depending on proposed project.
