Hike to the Discovery Site

Join us for a guided hike to explore the Discovery Site and reptile fossil tracks at the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument. Established in 2009, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the site! Join us to celebrate!

Approximate finish time: 11:30 am
Distance: 3 miles total; some loose rocks to navigate
Starting point: Prehistoric Trackways NM; the Ridgeline Trail parking lot – which is the first parking lot on the right side as you enter the Monument
Suggest to bring: hiking boots, poles, water, snacks, sunscreen

What the hike will see and discuss: 280 million year old – tracks of reptiles and amphibians; fossilized imprints of Walchia trees; sea fossils imbedded in limestone deposited in ancient seas
