Fall is my favorite time of year as cooler temps and the smell of roasted green chile fill the air. The monsoons have provided much needed rain to the dry desert and shades of green begin to emerge from the desert floor. Communities celebrate the amazing people and culture of the Southern New Mexico. It is truly a great time to be in the Land of Enchantment.
This year I am extremely excited about Monuments to Main Street Month, which showcases events and activities in communities throughout Doña Ana County and three local National Monuments; Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument, Prehistoric Trackways National Monument and White Sands National Monument. The events offer people of various interests and ages opportunities to connect with the communities and the lands we love. The Friends will be partnering or sponsoring several events this month including the Plein Air Festival, Horny Toad Hustle mountain bike race, Health and Wellness Fair at Dripping Springs and Public Lands Day.
There are several hikes and activities you can participate in to get outside and indulge in some spicy food and cold beverages with Corks and Kegs, the Hatch Chile Festival and Salsa Fest. I look forward to sharing these opportunities to spend time with friends and families. I hope you can come visit and say hello!
