In 2023, Friends of OMDP worked to fund a feasibility study for a new state park in Southern New Mexico. The New Mexico State Parks division is now engaging in a stakeholder survey to get the public’s feedback on what this future state park needs! Survey closes January 31st, 2024.
Broad Canyon Ranch is an important piece of land because it sits right along the Rio Grande! Its proximity to the river makes its an attractive foraging and nesting habitat for avian species!
At Friends of OMDP, we also hope that this new state park would make access to the popular hiking spot on our monument, Slot Canyon, easier for the public.
